‘Star Wars’ Ends 2017 on Top at the Global Box Office

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ended 2017 on top of the world box office, scoring another $52.4 million at U.S. cinemas in the week following Christmas.

The film has earned $517 ($382 million) in America since its release in early December, and pipped Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle for the U.S. New Year box office crown. Pitch Perfect 3, The Greatest Showman, and Ferdinand round out the new North American top five.

Meanwhile, the new Star Wars movie has now topped $1 billion worldwide in less than three weeks. The Last Jedi hauled in $120.4 million globally on the New Year’s Eve weekend, becoming the 24th highest-grossing movie of all time.

It become the fourth 2017 film to sail past $1 billion worldwide, following another Disney hit, Beauty and the Beast, The Fate of the Furious, and Despicable Me 3.
