The American leader faced rival candidate Mitt Romney in the third Presidential debate in Florida on Monday night (22Oct12) and was generally acknowledged to be the victor of that round.
Coulter took exception to the decision and voiced her opinion with a controversial comment on microblogging website Twitter.com. writing, “I highly approve of Romney’s decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.”
Her words provoked an angry response from many Twitter users, including a host of celebrities who hit back at the remark.
Actress Holly Robinson Peete wrote on Twitter.com, “AttentionatAnyCost (sic)… Did you see the AnnCoulter tweet calling Obama a retard? So out of line!!”
Comedian and actor Oswalt joked, “Ann Coulter died of prostate cancer in 2002. Her Twitter account’s a sentient emu skeleton with a swatch of eyelid skin stretched over it… If Ann Coulter’s calling the President a ‘retard’ it means he won/is going to win”, and Modern Family boss Danny Zuker added, “Local news is reporting on a fatal ballooning accident and tragically neither victim was Ann Coulter.”
