Stars donate auction lots in fight against New York building project

Celebrity residents of New York City’s Greenwich Village have organised an auction to help pay for the legal battle against a building project in their neighbourhood. Developers are planning to extend New York University’s (NYU) campus in the area with four tower blocks near Washington Square Park.
Critics of the project argue the buildings will damage and drastically alter the character of the local surroundings, and now stars who live in the area are fighting back.
As part of an auction to raise money for legal bills, Susan Sarandon has donated drinks at her ping-pong bar SPiN, Philip Seymour Hoffman is offering up a two-hour acting lesson, while fans can bid for a basketball game with actor John Leguizamo.
The auction will run online from 9 to 18 December (13).
