Stephen Colbert’s mother dies

U.S. TV comedian Stephen Colbert is in mourning following the death of his mother. The funnyman’s mum Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert, who had 11 children, passed away on Wednesday (12Jun13).
The 92 year old was an accomplished artist and businesswoman as well as a staunch supporter of the arts, according to her obituary, which was published in South Carolina’s Post and Courier.
Stephen pulled out of taping his late-night series The Colbert Report on Thursday (13Jun13) and a repeat episode was broadcast instead.
In February 2012, the star took a hiatus reportedly due to his mother’s declining health, and he paid tribute to her when he returned to the show, stating, “Evidently, having 11 children makes you tough as nails. Confidential to a lovely lady.”
