Stephen Fry adds his name to list of Harry Potter readers for J.K. Rowling livestream

Stephen Fry is returning to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world to read a chapter from her book The Philosopher’s Stone for the author’s new Harry Potter At Home online series.

The actor and comedian, who narrated the audiobooks for the series from 1999 to 2007, has re-read The Keeper Of The Keys, the fourth chapter of the first Potter adventure.

“In a period of spooky surreality, it was one more extraordinary and unexpected experience, though wholly charming and beneficent in this case, to hear myself saying these words again,” Fry says.

“When Professors McGonagall and Dumbledore first converse about how one day Harry Potter will be famous and his name known throughout the world, little did we know back in those innocent 90s… how true that was going to be.”

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone was originally published in 1997.

Fry also narrated the Harry Potter video games Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Previous chapter readers have included Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, Noma Dumezweni, who portrayed Hermione Granger in the original theatre run of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, and Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne.

Fry’s chapter is now available at harrypotterathome.com.
