Steve Coogan plans to turn down honour from the Queen

British actor/comedian Steve Coogan is hoping to land an honour from Queen Elizabeth II so he can turn it down.

The Philomena star dreams of being picked for inclusion on one of the British monarch’s honours lists, but he wants to join an elite group of celebrities who have turned down medals and titles from the royal.

He tells Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper, “I don’t believe in all that. If you look at the people who’ve turned them down, that’s always cool.”

Stars who have rejected honours from the Queen in the past include Beatles legend John Lennon, who returned his Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal as part of an anti-war protest, and David Bowie, who snubbed a knighthood in 2003.
