Stevie Wonder finally makes it to Montreux

Soul legend Stevie Wonder will fulfil late Montreux Jazz Festival founder Claude Nobs’ lifelong wish by headlining this year’s Swiss event in July (14). The 48th annual music festival will also feature Pharrell Williams, Robert Plant, Damon Albarn, Outkast, Chris Rea, Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison and Massive Attack.
Nobs, who died following a skiing accident last year (Jan13), famously tried to book Wonder for past festivals, but could never afford him.
Announcing the line-up at a press conference on Thursday (03Apr14), festival director Mathieu Jaton said, “We tried to get Stevie many times.”
But seats for the soul man’s Stravinsky Auditorium concert on 16 July (14) aren’t cheap – they go on sale on Friday (04Apr14) at $510 (£319) each.
