Sting’s shipyard musical heading to Broadway

Rocker Sting is closer to realising his Broadway dreams after holding a read-through for his musical The Last Ship in New York last week (ends10May13). The former The Police frontman penned 25 songs for the project, which is based on the lives of a family of boat-builders facing ruin after the closure of a shipyard in Newcastle, England – the musician’s hometown.
Writers Brian Yorkey and John Logan have penned the play’s script, and now actors have gathered in New York for a script reading, with rumours the show will hit the stage next spring (14).
Actress Louise Pitre, who is up for one of the roles, reveals, “It was incredible to work with this team.”
Broadway director Joe Mantello is expected to take charge of the production.
