Susan Sarandon protests treatment of Bernie Sanders supporters at the DNC

Susan Sarandon and Shailene Woodley joined supporters of U.S. politician Bernie Sanders on Wednesday (27Jul16) to protest their treatment at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
The actresses, Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover, and Rosario Dawson were among those expressing their frustration after former Ohio Senator Nina Turner was denied the chance to nominate her favourite Democrat.
Turner was reportedly dismissed from the DNC for refusing to endorse Hillary Clinton as the party’s official presidential candidate. She was scheduled to introduce the Vermont senator on Monday evening (25Jul16) but she was prevented from speaking.
Sanders fan Sarandon, who was spotted shaking her head and looking far from happy at the convention on Monday, said, “There’s been a lot of difficulty in executing the will of Bernie Sanders’ people and surrogates, and this was just a topping for the whole thing because she was ready to go. And she was very, very disappointed.
“This has not gone by lightly, and… we are upset.”
Bernie Sanders has since urged his supporters to get behind Clinton, his one-time party rival, as she prepares to take on Republican Donald Trump for the presidency in November (16).
On Tuesday (26Jul16), Thelma & Louise star Sarandon took to Twitter just before the start of the convention’s speeches to voice her unhappiness with the dismissal of Sanders’ supporters, writing: “I’m out”.
Over the weekend she wrote, “I’m curious to see what’s gonna happen. I’m really loving all these young people that are like, ‘No, I’m not accepting this’. That’s a really good thing because that’s how this country was built.”
Sarandon and Woodley weren’t the only big Hollywood stars making waves at the DNC this week – Bradley Cooper irked conservative fans of his portrayal of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in 2014’s American Sniper by appearing there on Wednesday night (27Jul16).
The actor was spotted at the event in his native Philadelphia, seated next to his model girlfriend, Irina Shayk.
Some fans took to Twitter to insist they would be boycotting Cooper’s future films over his appearance.
