Swedish stage and screen star Josephson dies

The acclaimed film and stage star passed away on Saturday (25Feb12) at a Stockholm hospital following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A regular collaborator of director Ingmar Bergman, they first worked together when Josephson was a teen in The Merchant of Venice, and carried on their partnership for the next seven decades.

Josephson also joined the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Sweden and starred in more than 60 productions, before becoming its director in 1965.

He starred in over 40 films and wrote several plays.
