Sylvester Stallone and Jackie Chan are reportedly set to team up in big budget action flick Ex-Baghdad.
According to Deadline, the Expendables star and Rush Hour actor will be joining forces for the upcoming film, helmed by XXX director Scott Waugh.
With a whopping $80 million apparently being spent on production on the film, which has Chinese backing, the movie will be one of the biggest budget features to ever come out of China.
Ex-Baghdad will follow a China-run oil refinery based in Mosul, Iraq, which calls for a Chinese security contractor (Chan) to help free its workers after being attacked by outsiders. But when things get out of hand, he must call in the aid of a former U.S. Marine, played by Hollywood legend Stallone.
Chan is also to serve as a producer on the project with his company SR Media. He will be joined by Qi Jianhong and Esmond Ren of Talent International which, along with SR Media, is financing the movie. Hans Canosa will also be a producer on the film, for which the start of production date and release date have yet to be confirmed.
Ex-Baghdad has already sparked controversy though with its choice of location, as this particular spot in Iraq has seen countless attacks and fatalities, gaining it the nickname ‘Highway of Death’.
Green Street director Lexi Alexander was quick to take to Twitter and share her shock at the decision to focus on the area, telling her followers what a dangerous spot it is.
“It’s called Highway of Death because Americans trapped convoys by disabling vehicles in the front and the rear, then shot everybody,” she pointed out. “That’s what Jackie Chan & Sylvester Stallone now use as an exciting location for a movie.”
She also posted a link to some graphic photos from the roadside.
