Sylvester Stallone and Placido Domingo Want the Olympics in LA

Sylvester Stallone, basketball icon Kobe Bryant, and opera singer Placido Domingo are among the celebrities helping Los Angeles city officials in their bid to host the 2024 Olympics.

Casey Wasserman, chairman of the LA2024 campaign, hosted 70 members of the International Olympic Committee at his home on Wednesday night (10May17) in an effort to convince them Los Angeles is the perfect choice to take on the future sporting event.

Also in attendance were Stallone, Bryant, and Domingo, along with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and Disney boss Bob Iger, who were all invited to help sway the IOC delegates, according to The Associated Press.

The evaluation group, visiting the city for four days, began touring the proposed venues on Thursday (11May17), with Wasserman and Mayor Eric Garcetti taking the committee members on a tour of the Staples Center, home of Bryant’s former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, and city rivals the Los Angeles Clippers.

Other possible venues for the 2024 Olympics include the Rose Bowl, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and the campuses of the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Los Angeles officials are competing against authorities in Paris, France to host the 2024 Olympics, after fellow bidders in Hamburg, Germany, Rome, Italy, and Budapest, Hungary all dropped out of contention.
