Sylvester Stallone’s All-Female ‘Expendebelles’ Might Actually Happen

Sylvester Stallone’s Expendebelles could hit cinemas before The Expendables 4.

The movie muscleman recruited a team of Hollywood hardmen for his 2010 directed hit The Expendables, with stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and Terry Crews returning for two follow up films.

Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson have also all featured, but it could soon be the turn of the fairer sex to kick some butt in the franchise.

Retired mixed martial artist and Expendables alumni Randy Couture has shared that The Expendebelles is racing at full steam ahead.

“I am hearing Expendabelles talks have been going on for the past two years,” he told New York Daily News.

“I heard they had a script they were adapting for (The Expendables) 4 and that we were going to start shooting for 4 in the fall. Now I’m hearing it might be pushed back and The Expendabelles might be back on the docket.”

News of a female remake of the action flick first circulated in 2014, with Sylvester stating he’d love to cast Sigourney Weaver as one of the leads. While little more has been said about the movie recently, the all female reboot of Ghostbusters may serve as a way to speed up production.

The new Ghostbusters, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, hits cinemas from Monday (11Jul16), and has already received favourable reviews from critics. This could encourage Sylvester to get started with his project.

The Rocky star, who celebrated his 70th birthday recently, is also said to be planning a follow up to 2015 award-winner Creed, which follows the story of the son of Rocky’s nemesis-turned-mentor Apollo Creed.

“The script is almost ready and now they are tying down dates for Sly and Michael B. Jordan,” the insider said.
