Writer/directors including Taika Waititi and Alfonso Cuaron will deliver lectures about screenwriting at BAFTA later this month (Nov18).
Officials of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) have recruited the Thor: Ragnarok director and Oscar-winning Gravity filmmaker for their ninth annual Screenwriters’ Lecture Series.
The line-up also includes Ol Parker, best known for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Paul Schrader, who wrote the screenplay for Martin Scorsese films such as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, Can You Ever Forgive Me? writer Nicole Holofcener, and Nadine Labaki, the writer/director of Capernaum, which won the Jury Prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
“BAFTA’s Screenwriters’ Lecture Series offers a rare opportunity for practitioners and enthusiasts to hear today’s most renowned screenwriters share their wisdom,” Marc Samuelson, Chair of BAFTA’s Film Committee, said. “This year we are thrilled to welcome such an outstanding line up of diverse, international talent, and I can’t wait to hear their insights into the craft of screenwriting.”
Each speaker will deliver a lecture about their screenwriting process and inspiration, before showing clips from their work and explaining how they came about and taking part in a Q&A.
The series takes place at BAFTA headquarters in London. Public tickets go on sale on 9 November.
