Taylor Kitsch hated strict diet for Waco

Actor Taylor Kitsch had to shed 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) in four months to transform himself into cult leader David Koresh for upcoming TV miniseries Waco.
The Lone Survivor star had to stick to a strict diet and rigorous training regimen to reach his weight goal, and it wasn’t easy.
“I lost 30 – just around 30 pounds,” he explained during an interview on America’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which aired on Tuesday (17Oct17), admitting working 14-hour days while on the limited diet “sucks”.
“I’d get 500 calories at breakfast and then it would go from like, veggies in the mid-afternoon to chicken broth after four o’ clock,” he recalled, before adding sarcastically, “And then you go run, which is awesome!”
Taylor, 36, has since wrapped filming on Waco and is relishing no longer having to watch what he eats: “I haven’t yet (gained the weight back) so I’m literally eating anything and everything in sight, which is great,” he smiled.
The actor’s dedication to his work paid off, as his appearance onscreen is eerily similar to that of the leader of the Branch Davidians religious sect.
Waco, which is set to premiere in the U.S. in January (18), is based on the real-life 1993 siege of the sect’s base in Waco, Texas, which included a deadly shootout, a 51-day standoff between government agents and sect members, and a fire. The blaze burned down the compound and killed 76 people inside, including Koresh.
Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon plays Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) negotiator Gary Noesner, while Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist features as Koresh’s wife, Rachel.
Other castmembers include Andrea Riseborough, Julia Garner, and John Leguizamo.
