Taylor’s Cleopatra trailer to be auctioned

The heavily-customised Aljo dressing room/trailer cost moviemakers at Twentieth Century Fox a reported $75,000 (£47,000) so that the actress could prepare for takes surrounded by the opulence of ancient Egypt.

It features lavender carpeting, hand-painted ceilings and murals and even half columns mounted on the walls.

A spokesman for auction house Profiles in History – the company behind the December (11) Icons of Hollywood sale, tells WENN, “This special hideaway was designed to make the star feel like the Queen of Egypt and epitomises the epic extravagance of Cleopatra, the last of the old guard Hollywood films.”

The pre-sale estimate on the trailer is $50,000 to $75,000 (£31,250 to £47,000).

The item is one of many amazing lots related to the epic film, including the original poster art for the movie and Taylor’s gold ceremonial dress.

Other items going under the hammer at the auction include: Taylor and Eddie Fisher’s marriage license from their Las Vegas wedding; the iconic blue and white gingham pinafore dress and ruby slippers Judy Garland wore in The Wizard of Oz; Steve McQueen’s two-piece Gulf racing suit from film classic Le Mans; Marilyn Monroe’s wedding ring; Bela Lugosi’s Count Dracula cape, and the DeLorean sports car from Back to the Future III.
