The Dark Knight Rises scores U.K. box office record

The Batman movie, starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, has beaten The Avengers to the box office figure by two days.

Meanwhile, The Dark Knight Rises remains at number one on the U.K. box office chart after taking $11.6 million (£7.28 million) in its second week on release.

The impressive haul crushed the movie’s nearest rival, animated Dr. Seuss tale The Lorax, which enters at two with just $2.96 million (£1.85 million), while Ice Age: Continental Drift rounds out the new top three.

Meanwhile, The Dark Knight Rises has become the third fastest film to reach $300 million (GBP187.5 million) globally. It took the movie only 12 days to reach the mark, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Only The Avengers (nine days) and The Dark Knight (10 days) reached the target faster.
