The Doors’ Robby Krieger and John Densmore perform together for first time in 15 years

Estranged former bandmates Robby Krieger and John Densmore proved their friendship was firmly back on track on Thursday (05Dec13) by reuniting for a mini-The Doors show at a special event in Los Angeles. The pair fell out 10 years ago when Densmore sued Krieger and the late Ray Manzarek over their plans to tour as The Doors of the 21st Century, but the death of the beloved keyboardist in May (13) brought the old pals back together to bury their differences.
The rock legends stood united last week as they hosted An Evening With the Doors, which included a screening of the acclaimed 2012 documentary, Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman, which chronicled the recording of the group’s sixth album.
Krieger and Densmore reminisced about working on the 1971 disc during a question and answer session, before surprising guests with a four-song set of Doors classics, including People Are Strange and Love Me Two Times.
The event marked the first time they had shared the same stage in 15 years, and drummer Densmore admits he would be happy to perform together a little more.
He tells RollingStone.com, “I had a lot of fun. I would do this again a few times, maybe”, while guitarist Krieger adds, “It’s like riding a bike, I guess. I’ve been playing these songs for years without him (Densmore) and I’ve had so many drummers that I played with, and none of them actually play it correctly like he does, so it’s kind of cool.”
The rockers are still working on putting together a tribute gig in February (14) on what would have been Manzarek’s 75th birthday, but Densmore admits, “The difficulty is getting all of them (the acts they would want) together in one city in one night.”
The reunion event took place just three days before what would have been late frontman Jim Morrison’s 70th birthday (08Dec13).
