The Expendables 2 blasts its way to the top of the box office

The movie sequel, co-starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jason Statham, forced Jeremy Renner’s The Bourne Legacy to slip to number two with a second week take of $17 million (£10.6 million), but The Expendables 2’s haul was no match for the original, which had opened with $34.8 million (£21.75 million) in 2010.

Animated adventure ParaNorman debuted at three, while Whitney Houston’s final film, movie musical Sparkle, raked in $12 million (£7.5 million) to enter at five, just behind Will Ferrell comedy The Campaign.
