The Icarus Line rocker Alvin DeGuzman dies

Former The Icarus Line bass guitarist Alvin Deguzman has died, aged 38.
The group’s frontman, Joe Cardamone, announced his bandmate had passed away on Wednesday (04Oct17) night in a Facebook post the following day.
“My closest friend and musical partner died last night,” he wrote. “He had been sick with cancer for the past few years but in the last six weeks the illness really took its toll.”
The California band released eight albums before splitting in 2015 after DeGuzman was diagnosed with mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
In a lengthy tribute, Cardamone detailed how he had met his late friend while they were still in school and bonded over music.
He concluded his post by writing, “Before I met Alvin I never really had a best friend or really even knew that existed and after I met him I was never alone again. With tears in my eyes I say goodbye to my friend, I love you homie, I hope we meet again.”
Although the band did not achieve chart success, they were loved by music critics, and were once described in British newspaper The Guardian as “the greatest rock group of the 21st century”.
