The Jungle Book has landed at the top of the North American box office for a third successive week.
Jon Favreau’s retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 story has hauled in $42.4 million (£29 million) in its third weekend (30Apr-01May16). The live action movie has now earned $684.8 million ($468.7 million) globally.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s new comedy Keanu round out the new top three, while the star-studded Mother’s Day debuts in fourth place with $8.3 million (£5.7 million). Barbershop: The Next Cut rounds out the top five with $6.1 million (£4.2 million).
Meanwhile, Captain America: Civil War has skyrocketed to the top of the box office overseas with a $200.2 million (£137 million) opening – one of the biggest openings of all time in the foreign market. The film opens in the U.S. on Friday (06May16).
