The Weeknd is set to make his movie debut in a new crime thriller, opposite Adam Sandler.

The Starboy hitmaker has signed on to appear in the film Uncut Gems, which is set in New York’s diamond district.

The project, also featuring Idina Menzel and LaKeith Stanfield, will premiere at the Toronto International Film festival.

A press release about the film reads: “It’s an electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score.

“When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.”

The film, set for release on Christmas Day (December 25, 2019) in the U.S., is part of Sandler’s film deal with streaming site Netflix.
