“The West Wing” planning terrorist drama next month

While all of the major networks have announced plans to shelve, at least temporarily, TV dramas dealing with terrorism, NBC has given the go-ahead to producers of The West Wing to produce a special episode dealing in part with terrorists, the Wall Street Journal reported today.

John Wells, the show’s exec producer, told the newspaper that the episode, to be broadcast early next month, is about tolerance and “won’t sully or demean what happened in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.”

Advertisers are taking a wait-and-see approach before deciding whether to buy spots on the episode, the newspaper suggested. One media buyer questioned the timing of the telecast, but told the WSJ, “Because of the quality of the show, it should be given the benefit of the doubt.”
