Actress Tiffany Haddish unwittingly tried to set Mary J. Blige up with her own bodyguard as they partied at Dj Khaled’s recent birthday bash.
The comedy star was among the guests invited to the celebration, which was hosted by rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs at an estate in Beverly Hills, California last weekend (02-03Dec17), when fellow attendees included Mary, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Fergie, Christina Aguilera, and Kelly Rowland.
Tiffany had previously hit it off with Mary during a gathering at her Girls Trip co-star Queen Latifah’s house last year (16), and she made a beeline for the No More Drama hitmaker when their paths crossed again at Khaled’s belated birthday event, suggesting they work the room together to find new love interests.
“(I told her), ‘You single, I’m single, all these men at this party, we could pick anything we want, right?’,” Tiffany recalled to Good Morning America. “She was like, ‘I don’t see why not!’.”
However, her first attempt at scoring a date for Mary didn’t go too well: “I was like, ‘Ooh, look at him right there,'” she continued. “I introduced myself to him, gave him a little curtsy, I was like, ‘You fine, you beefy…’ and I said, ‘Mary! Ain’t he fine, ain’t he beefy?’ and she was like, ‘Girl, that’s my security!’ I looked at her and was like, ‘Well, what days do he have off (sic)?'”
Tiffany relished the opportunity to hang out with Mary again, especially after learning how she had helped the singer through a dark time in her divorce from Martin ‘Kendu’ Isaacs.
Remembering the heartfelt conversation the two had shared, the actress explained, “She’s like, ‘I need to tell you something… That day at (Latifah’s) house, I was going through a lot and nobody knew about it at the time, but you made me laugh so hard, you made me feel so good and you made me forget about all my problems, and I just want to thank you so much for that.’ I was like, ‘Girl, you make me forget about all my problems with all your good music!’ We was tooting each other’s horns (sic)…”
Mary filed court papers to end her 12-year marriage in July, 2016, citing irreconcilable differences for the split.
The estranged couple has been fighting over the terms of its divorce ever since, with Mary seeking to cover a massive $11 million debt the pair owes if a judge agrees to end her spousal support payments.
