Tina Fey has changed her Emmy status so she can vote for Sarah Paulson, star of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
The comic actress has admitted she is “obsessed” with Sarah’s portrayal of Marcia Clark in the TV series, a character she also parodied in the first season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (UKS).
Tina is so keen on the Ryan Murphy true crime show she has now changed her Emmy voting status so she can support the stars of the show at this year’s awards.
At the Season 2 premiere, Tina, spoke about her obsession with The People vs OJ, explaining how she telephoned the Emmys to change her voting status from writer to acting peer.
“I literally called and I was like, ‘I need to fill out my paperwork for the Emmys,’” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I’ve always been in as a writer and I need to join the acting peer group so I can vote for Sterling (K. Brown) and John Travolta and Courtney (B. Vance). I changed my status for them!”
Speaking about her own portrayal of tough lawyer Marcia on Season 1 of UKS, Tina gushed: “Thank God I did that before Sarah Paulson because Sarah Paulson is so good!… I’m obsessed with it!”, said the actress and producer who will be appearing as a different character in the second season of her Netflix comedy.
The show became a cult hit thanks to its talented cast which includes The Office’s Ellie Kemper, Broadway star Tituss Burgess, and 30 Rock co-star Jane Krakowski.
And Tina explained the upbeat new season will have even more musical interludes.
“Obviously, Jeff Richmond, my husband, is one of the EPs on the show, and our writers keep going to him and being like ‘Can we just put a song here, can Tituss improvise?’ And I think it fits in the optimistic and joyful world of the show,” she explained.
