Tom Cruise and son Connor go sailing with America’s Cup favourites

Tom Cruise and his 19-year-old son Connor hit the water in San Francisco Bay, California on Sunday (28Jul13) to experience a little high-speed sailing with Emirates Team New Zealand’s crew as they prepared for the upcoming America’s Cup race. The daredevil father and son were more than just passengers on the huge catamaran – they worked the sails and took turns at the helm.
After his water adventure, the Top Gun star said, “It was really extraordinary… We got to work with the crew. It’s remarkable.
“We thought we were just gonna get on and we were gonna be just cruising… and the next thing we know, it was like, ‘You’re on this one, you’re on that one. Go, go, go… Stop. Faster. Faster. Stop…’ It was a real privilege. We wish the team great success.”
The team is already flying in the standings after beating Italy’s Luna Rossa crew by more than three minutes in their final meeting in the America’s Cup challenger just before their famous visitor and his son stepped aboard.
The New Zealanders now advance straight to the Louis Vuitton Cup finals, which begin on 17 August (13). The winner will then face Oracle Team USA in the 34th America’s Cup in September (13).
