Tom Hanks Joins Board of Trustees for Motion Pictures Museum

Tom Hanks and Kathleen Kennedy have joined the Board of Trustees for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

The Sully actor and producer Kennedy will be joined by 10 other board members, including fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg and producers Jason Blum and Kimberly Steward, to oversee The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ project, which has been in development for several decades.

The museum is slated to open in 2019 in Los Angeles and $300 million of the $388 million goal has been raised to pay for the development. The board members are expected to continue to grow and they will be lead by NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer.

The Academy Museum has already made great strides in raising funds, constructing the site, and developing the exhibition plans that will make this museum an essential destination for visitors and locals who love film,” Meyer says. “Now, with the formation of this board of trustees, we have real momentum. I couldn’t be more pleased by the talent we’ve gathered to oversee this great new institution.”
