Christopher Nolan still hasn’t shown Tom Hardy the final version of Dunkirk.
The British actor first worked with the filmmaker on 2010’s Inception alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Cillian Murphy, who Hardy also starred with in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, and the two men reunite once again in this year’s (17) epic war drama Dunkirk.
Known for his attention to detail and big budgets, Hardy promises Nolan’s latest offering – based on the famous evacuation during World War II – is just as impressive as his past projects, even though he’s still yet to see it in full.
“I haven’t seen the movie yet,” Hardy admitted to Total Film magazine. “Again, it’s one of those things with Chris – everything is under a tarpaulin: it’ll be unveiled when he wants it to be unveiled. But there’s always a really specific Nolan style to absolutely everything he does. I couldn’t tell you what to expect from this movie. I think that’s part of the magic of his – in inverted commas – ‘brand’.”
The 39-year-old star is such a big fan of Nolan’s directing style that collaborating with him again in the future is a “no-brainer”, even if it were a short film in his back garden.
But it seems Hardy is ready to take a rest now that Dunkirk has wrapped production and is almost ready to hit cinemas next month (Jul17), time which he will perhaps spend with his wife Charlotte Riley, their young child, and his son Louis from a previous relationship.
“I’m just taking some downtime, and I’m sieving through some options, and looking for something to do,” he explained. “I’m not in a massive rush to go back to work, actually, to be fair… So I’m going into a little bit of hibernation to decide what to do next.”
