Actor Tom Holland was accidentally punched in his face by a stuntman on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming – but he blames himself.
Holland, who tackles the titular role in the upcoming superhero movie, was filming a fight scene with a stuntman, but the sequence went awry because the 21-year-old “could only see about five feet in front of (him), with no peripheral vision.”
“Yeah, I got punched in the face,” he tells GQ magazine. “I was supposed to dodge it and I just didn’t see it coming. He cracked me in the head. He had this massive gauntlet in his hand, a big metal fist type thing, and he punched me in the face so hard, like you wouldn’t believe. But it looks great! I hope they use it. It’s one of those things where you stand up and you’re angry, like, ‘What the hell, man? You punched me in the head!’ Then you realize it’s entirely your fault.”
The set injury wasn’t the only painful ordeal Holland had to go through while filming the highly-anticipated movie.
“My legs are in bits right now from spider poses up to spider poses after spider poses so I’ll be sitting down for the rest of the evening,” he said at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs) awards earlier this year (17).
Tom took over the role from Andrew Garfield, who previously played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, and he met his predecessor for the first time on the BAFTAs red carpet in February (17).
“It was really, really nice, he’s a really lovely guy, he’s everything I hoped he would be,” Tom said. “He’s a brilliant actor, I’ve always been a fan of his work. I really look forward to picking his brains and seeing if he has any advice for me.”
