Tom Wilkinson adds star power to The Catcher Was A Spy

British movie veteran Tom Wilkinson and Gladiator actress Connie Nielsen have joined the all-star cast of real-life World War Two drama The Catcher Was A Spy.
Details about their specific roles have yet to be revealed, but the film will chronicle the secret life of professional baseball player Moe Berg, a former attorney who served as a back-up catcher for teams like the Chicago White Sox, while leading a double life as a spy for America’s Office of Strategic Services (O.S.S.), the forerunner for the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.). He helped the U.S. beat Germany in the race to build the atomic bomb.
Paul Rudd is portraying Berg, while Paul Giamatti stars as renowned physicist Samuel Goudsmit, Jeff Daniels is taking on the role of O.S.S. chief William ‘Wild Bill’ Donovan, and Guy Pearce is playing a military specialist.
Sienna Miller, fellow Brit Mark Strong, and Casino Royale’s Giancarlo Giannini also co-star, reports Deadline.com.
Together, Berg and Goudsmit managed to infiltrate the inner circle of leading Nazi scientist Werner Heisenberg and gather information about their atomic programme as part of the Alsos Mission.
The Catcher Was A Spy will be based on the Nicholas Dawidoff biography of the same name, which was released in 1994.
Ben Lewin is attached to direct the project, which has been adapted by Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat.
PalmStar Media’s Kevin Frakes will produce alongside Buddy Patrick, Jim Young, Tatiana Kelly, and Michael Bederman.
Production began in Prague, Czech Republic in February (17).
A release date has yet to be set.
