Tootsie heading to Broadway

Executives at Sony Pictures Entertainment, who produced the 1982 movie, have signed a deal with bosses at Scott Sanders Theatrical Prods to bring several pictures from their film library to the New York stage – and Tootsie is set to be the first.

Casting for the play has not yet begun, but theatre producer Sanders cannot wait to begin working on the adaptation, stating, “Sony Pictures has given the world some of the most exciting and compelling films in history. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such extraordinary source material and to mine it for titles that make sense for theatrical adaptation.

“Our goal is to rediscover stories and characters which speak to the human experience, and that audiences want to see again, but from a new perspective.”

The film company is behind a number of popular films, including Men in Black, Something’s Gotta Give and My Best Friend’s Wedding.
