Tori Kelly: ‘New album is my most vulnerable yet’

Tori Kelly has “poured her heart” into her upcoming third studio album.

The singer spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the 2019 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday July 10, 2019 and revealed her upcoming album, Inspired by True Events, is her most “vulnerable” yet.

“I’m just kind of opening up about the last couple years (and) some of the things that have gone down in my personal life,” the 26-year-old shared. “It’s just really, really personal songs. I poured my whole heart into it and I’m excited for people to hear.”

The Should’ve Been Us star revealed the passing of her grandfather and separation of her parents were central to the project’s direction, but she also confessed her marriage to German basketball star Andre Murillo also provided inspiration.

“So there’s these kind of emotions that were swirling around in my head and in my heart, and I didn’t know what else to do with that other than to put that into my music,” Tori reflected. “So that’s kind of how this album came to be.”

Inspired by True Events is slated for release on August 9, 2019.
