Tracee Ellis Ross’ TV Baby Bump Gave Her Neck Pain

Actress Tracee Ellis Ross’ fake baby belly for her hit TV comedy Black-Ish has left her nursing a bad neck.

The 44-year-old star’s character, Dr. Rainbow ‘Bow’ Johnson, is pregnant with her fifth child in the current third season of the family series, and to make her growing figure look realistic onscreen, she has to wear a large prosthetic bump for filming.

Diana Ross’ daughter, who does not have any kids of her own, was able to have a little fun with the bump backstage on Black-ish, but she admits lugging the extra weight around all day has actually taken its toll on her health.

“It’s so heavy…,” she remarked on U.S. talk show The View. “I went to the chiropractor ’cause my neck was really bugging me, and he was like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s as if something’s pulling you forward,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m wearing a five-pound prosthetic belly 14 hours a day, five days a week!'”

And her posture isn’t the only thing the fake belly has affected: “I waddle, it inhibits my breathing a little bit, I have to squat down to make space for it when I pick something up…,” she moaned, “but I get to take it off at the end of the day.”

Black-ish also stars Anthony Anderson as Tracee’s onscreen husband and Laurence Fishburne as her father-in-law.
