Travolta honoured by U.S. firefighters

The Pulp Fiction star jetted to the awards ceremony in Las Vegas last week (15Jun11), which was co-hosted by his wife Kelly Preston, and he reveals his involvement with the organisation hits close to home, admitting he has been saddened to see some of his own pals fall sick from toxic fumes they are exposed to regularly in the line of duty.

He tells TV news show Extra, “Initially, after 9/11 (the September 11 attacks in 2001), I observed, as many others did, the ill effects of the chemicals firefighters, police and EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) were exposed to.

“Then I did the movie Ladder 49 and, with my own eyes, I got to see all the friends who trained me in the movie suffering from ailments.”
