Trent Reznor urges Barack Obama to act over Edward Snowden scandal

Veteran rocker Trent Reznor has called on U.S. President Barack Obama to get tough and take action following the Edward Snowden snooping scandal. The Nine Inch Nails star is a big fan of the American leader, but fears Obama’s term of office is being wrecked by the ongoing furore after whistleblower Snowden revealed a mass surveillance program aimed at U.S. citizens.
Reznor admits his high hopes that Obama would effect change in the nature of politics have already crumbled, and now he is calling on the President to step in over the Snowden scandal.
He tells U.K. newspaper The Guardian, “The day he was elected really felt like: ‘I can’t believe that just happened.’ Jump ahead a few years and… I know one person can’t change everything and it’s the system that’s broke, but the Snowden s**t that we’re finding out about now, is this a surprise to anybody? But no one will do anything about it.”
Snowden, a former technical contractor and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) worker, is currently living in Russia as a fugitive from U.S. authorities after leaking information on mass surveillance operations undertaken by the U.S. and U.K. governments on their own citizens.
