Trey Songz’s felony domestic violence case has been rejected by the District Attorney’s office.
The R&B singer was accused of repeatedly punching Andrea Buera at a party in Los Angeles in February (18), during NBA All-Star Weekend. Buera, who claims to have been friends and “occasional romantic partners” with Songz for the past three years, obtained a domestic violence restraining order against the musician, but he maintained his innocence when he arrived to face the allegations.
Now TMZ.com have claimed that the Los Angeles District Attorney have rejected the case, after Songz’s lawyer Shawn Holley presented them with numerous witness statements that contradicted Buera’s version of events.
Holley is also said to have provided the Los Angeles Police Department with further information which led to doubts about Buera’s credibility and the rejection of the case.
It will now be passed on to the Los Angeles City Attorney, who will make the decision whether or not to charge Songz with the lesser charge of misdemeanour domestic violence.
After surrendering to the authorities, Songz was released on $50,000 bond, and later took to Twitter to plead his innocence.
“For weeks my lawyers & Mgmt (management) have asked me not to comment on this and I initially agreed but this morning I feel that my fam (family), the women that raised me, my friends & fans especially the youth need to hear from me,” he wrote. “I am being lied on and falsely accused for someone’s personal gain.”
“I won’t be speaking too much more on this but would like to thank you for all the prayers and support.”
