Twickenham Film Studios saved from closure

Twickenham Film Studios, which has hosted shoots for The Iron Lady and The Beatles’ movies Help! and A Hard Day’s Night, went into administration earlier this year (12) and it was feared the venue would be completely shut down if it was sold off to property developers.

Actress Julie Walters even fired off an email to Britain’s Business Secretary Vincent Cable, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Twickenham, to urge him to intervene as part of a high-profile campaign to save the studio.

The effort also gained the backing of Sir Paul McCartney and it appears their voices have now been heard.

Businessman Sunny Vohra and his company Twickenham Studios Limited recently purchased the location, and he has vowed to invest in the property to ensure it remains an asset to the British film industry.

Twickenham Film Studios, which will celebrate its centenary next year (13), was also where classic Michael Caine film Alfie was shot.
