Vanessa Carlton scraps tour dates after ectopic pregnancy drama

Singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton has scrapped a series of upcoming gigs as she recovers from “intense nerve pain” following an ectopic pregnancy. The A Thousand Miles singer was set to hit the road later this month (Nov13) but she has now cancelled the first dates and rescheduled three others until February (13).
Announcing the news on her Facebook.com page on Tuesday (05Nov13), Carlton revealed she was “diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy” after a concert on 15 October (13).
She adds, “In my case it was a fallopian pregnancy (the embryo settled in my tube, which is the width of a straw). This is not considered a viable pregnancy because the fetus cannot develop, and it is a high-risk situation for the mother because of the potential for tubal rupture and internal bleeding.”
Her doctors caught the condition early, and gave her a mild dose of chemotherapy to “hopefully shrink the pregnancy and save my tube” but the tube started to rupture last week (beg28Oct13) and she began to experience “internal bleeding”.
In the candid Facebook post, the 33-year-old star reveals her right fallopian tube had to be surgically removed, and on Tuesday (05Nov13) she started suffering “intense nerve pain in one of my incisions”.
She says, “I was all set to fly to Vancouver on Wednesday but, alas, I am not ready yet… I need to stay close to my doctors and the hospital in case this initial pain turns into something more serious.”
Addressing her scrapped tour dates, Carlton adds, “Gimme a couple more days, I’ll be ready.”
She is hoping to resume the tour on 13 November (13) in San Francisco, California.
