Vanessa Hudgens STUNS During ‘Grease: Live’ Hours After Her Father Died of Cancer

Celebrities have flocked to social media to praise the stars of the Grease: Live TV event for their flawless performances.

Vanessa Hudgens played bad girl Rizzo in the U.S. TV musical, putting on an impressive show on Sunday (31Jan16) just one day after her father Greg – who the show was dedicated to – passed away from cancer. Her dedication to the show impressed many on Twitter, with a host of big-name stars paying tribute to her and her co-stars including Julianne Hough, Carly Rae Jepsen, Joe Jonas and Mario Lopez.

Mario was particularly impressed with Vanessa’s performance, using Twitter to give her a shout out.

“Imagine if you had a day like @VanessaHudgens & performed like that. Wow.What a strong woman.My new hero #GreaseLive,” he wrote.

The event boasted a cast and crew of around 600, 14 sets and was presented on 20 acres of studio lot with a live crowd cheering from start to finish. Many celebrities praised those who worked hard behind the scenes, with model Chrissy Teigen particularly impressed.

“ok i am officially watching Grease Live…I am in awe of how difficult the behind the scenes of this must be,” she wrote, before admitting she wouldn’t have what it takes to perform.

“i can’t explain how badly i should never be cast in anything like this. i would f**k up so hard. Has anyone made a mistake on this live show at all?? I’m sitting on the couch and I’ve made like 11 somehow (sic).”

Professional dancer Julianne played Sandy Young, with her brother Derek quick to praise her skills via Twitter.

“Killin it ! #GREASELIVE,” he wrote. “Singing live for all to hear!!!! Nailed it! #emotional #proudbigbrother (sic).”

Vanessa’s High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale spoke of how in awe of her friend she was, while celebrities including Debra Messing admitted crying because they were so moved.

“Ok. Finale? I cried. #GreaseLive” she wrote.

Reality TV star Snooki added: “Ugh crying I love the original grease so much and this is awesome. #GreaseLive (sic)”
