Vanessa Mae set for Winter Olympics

Classical violinist Vanessa Mae is set to compete at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia after impressing judges with her ski skills. The musician announced last year (13) that she was taking a break from her career in a bid to fulfil her ambition of representing Thailand at the upcoming sporting showpiece.
The 35-year-old star had to compete in qualifying sessions for the 2014 Games in Sochi as Thailand has no high-ranked skiers, but it appears she has made it through to the event.
Mae’s manager Giles Holland says, “It would appear she’s done it. She’s done it by a whisker, but she’s done it.”
The star, full name Vanessa-Mae Vanakorn Nicholson, is a British citizen but holds a Thai passport because her father is a national of the Asian country.
The 2014 Winter Olympics takes place in Sochi, Russia next month (Feb14).
