Veterans Chapel To Be Named for Bob Hope

Amid all the Memorial Day BBQ-ing and pool partying, those who did so much for our country will be remembered.

Hollywood’s version of this comes in the form of Bob Hope, the entertainer and comedian known for cheering up U.S. troops overseas with visits and live performances. On Wednesday, Hope will have a veterans chapel in the Los Angeles National Cemetery named in his honor, The Associated Press reports.

Special permission was necessary for the memorial, however, since Hope is neither deceased nor a veteran.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed the bill, and on Wednesday the Senate approved it. Only President Bush’s signature is needed. If that comes as expected on Wednesday, Hope‘s 99th birthday, the Bob Hope Veteran’s Chapel will be dedicated that afternoon.

Unfortunately, because Hope has not been well, he will probably not be attending the dedication, but his wife, Delores, will speak on his behalf.
