Wedding Crashers writer working on Overboard remake

Wedding Crashers writer Bob Fisher is working on a remake of classic film Overboard.
The remake of Garry Marshall’s 1987 film is underway once again, with MGM tapping Fisher to write the script, reports The Tracking Board.
Fisher will co-direct the project with Rob Greenberg, while 3pas Studios are attached to produce.
The original film was written by Leslie Dixon and starred Goldie Hawn as a spoiled woman who falls overboard on a yacht. When she wakes up in hospital with amnesia, a carpenter (Kurt Russell) takes revenge on her by convincing her that she’s his wife.
Couple Hawn and Russell starred in the comedy three years after they met on the set of Swing Shift and a year after welcoming their first child together, son Wyatt. In recent years, the romantic comedy has become popular via cable television and has gained something of a cult following.
The remake has been in the works for some time, with Will Smith and Jennifer Lopez previously linked to the reboot when it was overseen by Columbia.
According to The Tracking Board, Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez will have a central role in the new movie, and will also act as one of the producers.
Fisher first started as a small-time writer and producer in the world of television, before his feature script Wedding Crashers became a hit in 2005. Eight years later he wrote We’re the Millers, which generated more than $270 million (£214 million) at the box office.
Meanwhile, Greenberg also had his start in television, working on sitcoms such as Frasier, How I Met Your Mother and Happy Endings. Currently, he’s a director and executive producer for TV Land’s Impastor.
