West eyeing Golden Globes glory

The British actor has been nominated for Best Performance in a Miniseries or Television Film for his role in drama The Hour.

He is going head-to-head with his The Wire co-star Idris Elba (Luther) for the trophy, and also faces tough competition from Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), William Hurt (Too Big to Fail) and Bill Nighy (Page Eight) – but he is determined to claim victory at the ceremony in Los Angeles on 15 January (12).

West tells the Associated Press, “In my 37 years in showbusiness I’ve yet to win an award. So yes, we had a little jump up and down at home, cracked open another bottle (to celebrate).

“It’s always nice to know that what you’re doing is actually being watched and appreciated by people. Especially when audience figures aren’t so big. And in England, we were on over the summer holidays, so I wasn’t ever sure if anyone saw it.”
