Grammy-winning singer and actress Whitney Houston will receive Black Entertainment Television’s first Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Houston is receiving the award because of her many accomplishments in the world of music and film, according to Curtis Gadsen, senior vice president of entertainment programming and network operations. Houston has garnered six Grammy awards and appeared in five films, including The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife. Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer will host the awards show. Luther Vandross and Christina Aguilera will perform as part of a tribute to Houston.
