Will Ferrell upset Mark Strong by Holmes & Watson movie plans

Will Ferrell genuinely shocked Mark Strong when he shared his plans to make a Sherlock Holmes-themed film.

The Anchorman star and John C. Reilly take on famed literary characters Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in Etan Cohen’s new comedy, Holmes & Watson.

Will and John spent three months in London shooting the movie, and one day bumped into Mark at a Chelsea soccer match, where he did not seem too pleased with the idea for their movie, especially considering he had starred as the villain in Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes.

“We were talking to him… He’s like, ‘What are you guys doing here?'” Will recalled. “And (we say), ‘We’re doing Holmes and Watson.’ And he went, ‘What?!’ And he just had this astonished look. I don’t know if it was anger. I don’t know if it was jealousy or resentment. He was like, ‘Really?’

“I think it was disappointment, I’m pretty sure,” John suggested, before Will added: “Disappointment that we were handed the reins of Holmes and Watson.”

John then explained that he and Will, 51, didn’t hold back when talking to the locals when shooting the movie and hoped nobody from the U.K. would be offended when they watched the trailer.

“We went to England and we made a lot of fun of English people,” he laughed. “We were not very good guests.”

Elsewhere in the chat, John spoke about how he lived on a house boat on the River Thames during his stay in London. Yet, partway through his stay, he realized that he didn’t feel like himself.

“By the time I left there, I thought I was having a nervous breakdown. I thought, ‘I’m having a psychotic break.. I won’t go and see a doctor here, when I get home I’ll go and see a psychiatrist because something is very wrong. I’m not able to focus.’ And I got home and I stopped drinking four pots of tea a day and I was fine. Who thought it was all that English tea?” the 53-year-old laughed.

At the conclusion of the interview, Will and John took to the stage and surprised the audience by giving a rendition of Peaches & Herb’s 1979 song Reunited.
