Will Smith enjoyed the “perfect” experience at a recent Comic Con event in Brazil after going incognito by wearing an orc mask to blend in with the crowd.
The actor was booked to appear at a press conference for his new movie Bright at the 2017 Comic Con Experience in Sao Paulo on 10 December (17), but before getting down to business, Will decided to have a little fun by donning a fantasy disguise, similar to the orc characters in his Netflix film.
He has now shared video footage of his adventures on YouTube, and teased the clip in a post on his new Instagram account on Tuesday night (19Dec17).
“So I’mma (sic) put on this orc mask because I can’t walk the floor at Comic Con as me, out in the middle of everybody,” he explained, before sharing his excitement at getting to prank his fans. “I think I’mma f**k with people!”
“I never get to do this, it’s gonna be great,” he continued. “I get to walk around.”
However, Will quickly discovered the prosthetic mask wasn’t very comfortable to wear.
“It’s hard to see, and it’s hard to breathe,” he said as he pulled on the disguise, “but I’m a soldier so I don’t need either one of them things (sic).”
The short film captured Will mingling with Comic Con attendees, many of whom had also engaged in cosplay, and growling at people, before jumping on a table in front of a crowd and slowly peeling off his mask, prompting screams from stunned fans.
Later on in the video, Will admitted the thrill of pulling off such a surprise was one of the best aspects of his job.
“That thing (emotion) in somebody’s face, like, that’s the reason to make entertainment, to just catch people in that anticipation,” he smiled. “That was perfect.”
He captioned the Instagram post, “This is Me at Comic Con in Sao Paulo. It was KRAZY when I took the mask off. The Orc Life is Sweet.”
Set in a world where orcs live side by side with humans, Bright stars Will as a battle-hardened Los Angeles police officer who is forced to work with an orc, portrayed by Joel Edgerton, to find a weapon everyone is prepared to kill for.
The movie is released on Netflix and in select theaters on Friday (22Dec17).
