William Shatner signs new record deal – at 86

Star Trek icon William Shatner has signed a new country music deal at the age of 86.
Executives at Heartland Records Nashville have revealed the actor is working on “a very special project” that will be released later this year (18).
It won’t be Shatner’s first attempt at recording a hit – his spoken-word rendition of the Beatles’ Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds has become a cult hit and he has recorded eight albums.
His last release was 2013’s Ponder the Mystery.
He also has a country music pedigree, showing up in Brad Paisley’s videos and performing with the Celebrity singer at the Country Music Awards.
Paisley’s appeared on a cover of Space Cowboy on Shatner’s Seeking Major Tom album.
Shatner and his late Star Trek castmate Leonard Nimoy also released the compilation Spaced Out: The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, which featured their renditions of country classics like Gentle on My Mind and I Walk the Line.
A Heartland press release reads: “This new project promises to be one of the most entertaining musical ventures to date for the Emmy Award-winning actor.”
