Wizard of Oz heading to TV

The Wizard Of Oz is set for a revival in a new TV series. Executives at America’s NBC are developing a new drama series based on the books of L. Frank Baum titled Emerald City, which will bring back beloved character Dorothy Gale.
The show will have an initial run of 10 episodes, but the network’s entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, who announced the project during the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday (19Jan14), hopes it will run for longer if it proves popular with the public.
He says, “Emerald City could be over after 10 episodes if we feel we’ve plumbed the depths of what we want to do with that show. Or given that there are a number of books to draw from, we could have Emerald City on the air for five years.”
Emerald City has been described NBC as a “dramatic and modern re-imagining of the tales that include lethal warriors, competing kingdoms, and the infamous wizard as we’ve never seen him before”.
