For everyone who’s ever wasted hours and hours of their childhood being lost in the mazes of Nintendo’s The Legend Of Zelda, you can now, officially, spend your adulthood doing the same thing. Smartboy, by Hyperkin, is a phone case that transforms your cell phone into a Gameboy.
The phone case first caught our attention on April Fool’s Day when Hyperkin announced the product, and it seemed so good it had to be an April Fool’s joke. Thankfully, it was real and went into production in July.
The Smartboy connects to your Android phone and turns it into a Gameboy. The case is compatible with Gameboy and Gameboy Color games. Just put the case on your phone, put in a Gameboy cartridge like you normally would on an actual Gameboy and play! The best part is you don’t need an extra light attachment to play at night like the original Gameboy — phones are backlit! Oh, yes, modern technology!
The case is currently available as a developer’s version so programmers can improve upon Hyperkin’s app. Smartboy ships on December 1st, so you still have to wait awhile to get one, but you can order yours today.
