Yusuf Islam donates I Love My Dog song to PETA

Singer Yusuf Islam is celebrating the 50th anniversary of I Love My Dog by allowing officials at PETA to use his first hit for National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.
The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens famously crooned about his love for his furry friend on the track, which featured on his 1967 debut album Matthew and Son, and to mark its release, he has donated the tune to serve as the soundtrack to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ latest campaign video.
In the promo, the music plays as images depict the close bond between a man and his adopted canine friend.
“A dog will love you unconditionally, whether you’re on top of the world or in the pits,” Yusuf says. “PETA and I encourage everyone to visit their local animal shelter today and open their heart and home to an animal in need.”
America’s Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, which aims to encourage members of the public to help reduce animal homelessness, falls on Sunday (30Apr17).
Yusuf is the latest animal-loving musician to donate a song to PETA, following in the footsteps of artists like The Black Keys, Morrissey, Chrissie Hynde, and The Beatles.
